For our Teacher - Miss Cafferty!
We want to thank Miss Cafferty, a fantastic teacher at P.S. 124. She saw that most of the students in her class were having trouble with math concepts (several had been left back the previous year), but she figured out creative ways to get through to them. Johnny could not read when he started out in September, but somehow she was able to get him reading at grade level by June! Our daughters, Drew, Cathy, Elizabeth and Roe, were failing math miserably, averaging about 45% on their tests, but Miss Cafferty spent extra time with them, and helped them enormously. The girls began to recite memorized stories about lions, antelopes and “multiplying rabbits” that they said helped them remember their math lessons. We want to tell Miss Cafferty that there’s literally no way we can repay her for what she accomplished with this class of 19 third graders.

![]() Miss Cafferty, You’re Great! Miss Cafferty we thank you, for knowing how to teach Our group of 19 kids who were impossible to reach Our daughters Roe and Cathy, Elizabeth and Drew Were doomed to fail mathematics, they didn’t have a clue They say you taught a method, you made up in your head For them to practice nightly, before they went to bed It had to do with rabbits, who multiply so fast And lions eating antelopes that weren’t very fast! It caused them to remember, the formulas you taught And helped them to arrive at, the great results you sought And when it came to reading, poor Johnny couldn’t cope He thought he couldn’t do it, and simply gave up hope But once again you triumphed, You figured out a way To show him how to read and write, these things we can’t repay We’re thrilled that all your students were able to excel You got them all to study and to ace their tests as well The students want to mention, although they’re only eight A few short words about you: “Miss Cafferty, you’re great!” We love you, Miss Cafferty!
